2020 Election Result Recap

While election day was three days ago, the final results are dependent on votes that are still being counted. As of 9:30 am on November 6, the election results are below.

The following key states have been called for President Trump:

  • Florida
  • Iowa
  • Ohio
  • Texas

The following key states have been called for Vice President Biden:

  • Arizona (AP, Fox)
  • Michigan
  • Minnesota
  • New Hampshire
  • The 2nd Congressional District of Nebraska.
  • Wisconsin

 
The following key states remain uncalled:

  • Arizona (other media outlets have refrained from calling the state)
  • Georgia
  • Nevada
  • North Carolina
  • Pennsylvania

 
 
The U.S. Senate looks to remain in Republican control, with a smaller working majority. Prior to the election, Republicans held a 53 – 47 majority, including two independents caucusing with the Democrats.
 
Republicans managed to flip one seat, defeating incumbent Sen. Doug Jones (D) of Alabama. Republicans also managed to defend key seats in Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Montana, and South Carolina.
 
Democrats managed to flip two seats, defeating incumbents Sen. Cory Gardner (R) of Colorado, and Sen. Martha McSally (R) of Arizona. Democrats were able to defend their key seats in Michigan and Minnesota.
The remaining Senate seats that remain uncalled are:

  • Sen. Thom Tillis (R) vs Cal Cunningham (D) in North Carolina
  • Sen. David Purdue (R) vs Jon Ossoff (D) in Georgia
  • Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R) vs Raphael Warnock (D) in Georgia

The special election between incumbent Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R) vs Raphael Warnock (D) is heading to a runoff on January 5. At the moment, the race between Sen. David Purdue (R) and Jon Ossoff (D) may also head to a runoff on January 5.

 
The U.S. House looks to remain in Democratic control, with a smaller working majority. Prior to the election, House Democrats held a 232 – 197 majority. However, there are many races left to call at this time.
 
 
Pennsylvania currently has 18 Congressional districts, with a 9-9 split between the Republicans and Democrats.
 
At this time the following Congressional races in Pennsylvania have been called:

  • Incumbent Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R) of HD 1 has won re-election
  • Incumbent Rep. Brendan Boyle (D) of HD 2 has won re-election
  • Incumbent Rep. Dwight Evans (D) of HD 3 has won re-election
  • Incumbent Rep. Madeleine Dean (D) of HD 4 has won re-election
  • Incumbent Rep.Mary Gay Scanlon (D) of HD 5 has won re-election
  • Incumbent Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (D) of HD 6 has won re-election
  • Incumbent Rep. Dan Meuser (R) of HD 9 has won re-election
  • According to the AP, Incumbent Congressman Scott Perry (R) of the 10th Congressional District has won re-election
  • Incumbent Rep. Lloyd Smucker (R) of HD 11 has won re-election
  • Incumbent Rep. Fred Keller (R) of HD 12 has won re-election
  • Incumbent Rep. John Joyce (R) of HD 13 has won re-election
  • Incumbent Rep. Guy Reschenthalar (R) of HD 14 has won re-election
  • Incumbent Rep. Glenn Thompson (R) of HD 15 has won re-election
  • Incumbent Rep. Mike Kelly (R) of HD 16 has won re-election
  • Incumbent Rep. Mike Doyle (D) of HD 18 has won re-election

 
At the moment, 9 congressional seats have been called for Republicans, and 6 have been called for Democrats.
 
At this time, the following Congressional races have not been called:

  • Incumbent Congresswoman Susan Wild (D) of the 7th Congressional vs Lisa Scheller (R)
  • Incumbent Congressman Matt Cartwright (D) of the 8th Congressional District vs Jim Bognet (R)
  • Incumbent Congressman Conor Lamb (D) of the 17th Congressional District vs Sean Parnell (R)

 
 
At the moment, only one Pennsylvania row office has had a victor bdeclared. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the NYT the following race has been called.

  • Tim Defoor (R) has defeated Nina Ahmad (D) for the open Auditor General’s office, which was previously held by Auditor General DePasquale

The remaining races for the State Attorney General and Treasurer remain uncalled.


 
In the Pennsylvania State House and Senate it looks like Republicans will maintain their majorities.
 
Prior to the election, Republicans lead the House by 109 – 93. They may have improved on their majority, but many races remain uncalled at this time.

Currently, the NYT has called 172 races in the Pennsylvania State House, with Republicans winning 103, to the Democrats 70. Thirty races remain uncalled.
 
 
The following key House races have been called:
 

  • According to the New Castle News, incumbent Rep. Chris Sainato (D) of HD 9 has won re-election
  • According to the New Castle News, incumbent Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R) of HD 10 has won re-election
  • According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, incumbent Rep. Brandon Markosek (D) of HD 25 has won re-election 
  • The open seat in HD 28 – which formerly elected Speaker Turzai – elected Rob Mercuri (R) over Emily Skopov (D), according to CBS Pittsburgh
  • According to the Bucks County Courier Times, Rep. Meghan Schroeder (R) of HD 29 has won re-election
  • According to the AP, incumbent Rep. Lori Mizgorski (R) of HD 30 has won re-election
  • According to the AP, incumbent Rep. Valerie Gaydos (R) of HD 44 has won re-election
  • According to the NYT, incumbent Rep. Steve Malagari (D) of HD 55 has won re-election
  • According to the NYT, incumbent Rep. Frank Burns (D) of HD 72 won re-election
  • According to the AP, incumbent Rep. Tom Mehaffie (R) of HD 106 has won re-election
  • According to WNEP Scranton, incumbent Rep. Bridget Kosierowski (D) of HD 114 has won re-election
  • The open seat in HD 123 – which formerly elected Rep. Neal Goodman (D) – has elected Tim Twardzik (R) over Peter Symons (D), according to the Times News Online
  • According to the Bucks County Courier Times, incumbent Rep. Frank Farry (R) of HD 142 has won re-election
  • According to the Bucks County Courier Times, incumbent Rep. Wendy Ullman (D) of HD 143 lost her re-election to Shelby Labs (R)
  • According to the Bucks County Courier Times, incumbent Rep. Todd Polinchok (R) of HD 144 has won re-election
  • The open seat in HD 147 – which formerly elected Rep. Marcy Toepel (R) – has elected Tracy Pennycuick (R) over Jill Dennin (D), according to the AP
  • The open seat in HD 160 – which formerly elected Rep. Stephen Barrar (R) – has elected Craig Williams (R) over Anton Andrew (D), according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
  • According to the AP, incumbent Rep. Martina White (R) of HD 170 has won re-election
  • Incumbent Rep. Wendi Thomas (R) of HD178 won re-election.



Prior to the election, Republicans held a 29 – 21 majority. This majority included one independent who caucused with the Republicans.


Out of the 30 Senate races being held this year, the NYT has currently called 26, with Republicans winning 14 to the Democrats 7.
 
The following key races have been called in the State Senate:

  • According to the AP, incumbent Sen. Scott Martin (R) of SD 13 has won re-election.
  • According to the AP, incumbent Sen. Pam Iovino (D) of SD 37 has lost her re-election to Devlin Robinson (R)
  • According to GoErie, incumbent Senator. Dan Laughlin (R) of SD 49 has won re-election
