Tom Ridge Discusses Importance of Compromise

Check out this video from our nation’s first Homeland Security Secretary and former Governor of Pennsylvania, Tom Ridge. Governor Ridge is now a Partner at the Ridge Policy Group (RPG). RPG is a top government affairs firm in Pennsylvania and Washington, DC, made up of lobbyists from both political parties.

Governor Ridge discusses his favorite president, Teddy Roosevelt, and the important lesson from him of mutual concession in democratic processes. He also shares one of Teddy Roosevelt’s famous quotes: “Far and away the best prize that life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.”

Governor Ridge explains that public service is hard work. However, you can influence change in our great democratic government if you work with integrity. You can make a difference if you seek bipartisan support from elected representatives. He highlights that it is important to be strategic.

Governor Ridge closes by saying that “compromise and bipartisanship are at the heart of our democracy.” This is something that Ridge Policy Group aims to follow as we advocate for our clients in today’s democratic system.
